When I was 14, everyone in my class had to write a letter to be sent to themselves 8 years in the future. When I walked through the front door today, I saw mine waiting for me. I didn’t expect it, because, for some reason, I thought I hadn’t written one. I guess I had.
So let’s take a look at the highlights reel, shall we? (Some of it is about specific people, so, for obvious reasons, I won’t be putting that on here.):
Hey, sorry me, but I totally forgot to write this letter until right now, the night before it’s due, so I’m gonna have to hurry and not be quite as thorough as I wanted to be. [believe me, you guys: never has a more thorough letter been written. i will be sparing you the worst of it] As I see this letter as a time traveling device, aka., [nice punctuating, kid] “blast from the past, I plan to take full advantage of it. The following parts of my letter will be divided in different sections.
[this section consists of a pathetic struggle to list my friends, including many people after whose names I wrote in parantheses “sorta”]
Ages: Me — I will be 15 in about 27 days. 1/10/04 [I then list my entire family’s names and birthdays]
Likes: Art - Drawing, painting, sculpting, etc… Anime [noooooo], Japanese Art and Language, Mangas [what is wrong with yoooou/meeee], Neopets (me GEEKY) [i…i am horrified], Ireland, Irish culture, comic drawing, reading, sci fi, science (the real kind involving theorems on the universe and such.) T.V., Internet, web design, fashion design, battle of wits.
[what follows is a list of my crushes. haha, you WISH i was including that]
Favorites: T.V. Show - “ALIAS”, Sport - B-Ball, Exercise - running, Website - Neopets, Neopet - Aisha, Manga - Fruit Basket [is that even the right name? i don’t think that is the right name], Book - Facing the Lion, Movie - “Catch Me if You Can”, Food - sushi, Animal - turtle (right this minute), Artist - Leonardo Da Vinci, Scientist - Einstein, Living Scientist - Stephen Hawkings [it’s HAWKING, genius], Subject - Art, Teacher - Kelderman [the guy who made us write these. it’s possible he really was my favorite teacher, since this was my first semester in high school. it’s also possible i was afraid he’d read my letter]
Hmmm… what else is there…?
[this is the section where i describe my physique. let the self deprecation begin] Physique: Height - 5’3”, Wt. - 144.2 lbs, Body Fat - 32.8% (whoa!), Hair - still brown and almost to my butt, Shoe size - 9, Pant-size - 7 to 9…Eyes - brown, Skin - dry, tan, olive, zitty, Gut - blubbery and huge, Chins - 2…Nose - crooked, teeth - yellowed and squished, too small, with underbight [actually, i have a slight overbight, silly], Breath - bad [floss!] [here is where i list my best physical achievments, such as mile times. the most boring] Overall appearance - Gorgeous! (Yeah, right!) Wishes: Black, Thick-rimmed, rectangle glasses [because: Weezer!]; all varieties of converse shoes, to be at my ideal weight (about 20 lbs lighter!) [sorry, dude], to have clear skin without dry patches, to get baptised, to graduate high-school with scholarships, to be a songwriter, to play guitar and piano as well or better as I play flute, to feel more confident, to be more friendly, to let people know the real, good side of me.
Hopes for you - You will be about 22 years old when you get this letter. So, I hope that…
You are alive, you are not an alchoholic [had trouble spelling that word], you never took drugs, you aren’t married, finished college or are finishing, have a job, aren’t still living with Mom and Dad, are liked by people, have a best friend, maybe have a boyfriend, are planning to travel, have some money, are still in the truth, are baptised, aren’t fat, still exercise, aren’t a hermit.
Mine and Yours Truly,
Me and You

P.S. a stamp right now costs 37 cents. Sudam [ugh, sic] Hussein was captured today!
So, Little Me…here I am, 22. I am making fun of you quite a bit right now, and I’m sorry, because that is seriously the last thing you need. I’m actually surprised at how much we still have in common, even though many of our tastes may have changed. I’m sorry I didn’t magically get skinny the second I turned 20 like we’d hoped. I did just graduate from college with a couple of art degrees, you’ll be pleased to know, thought my school wasn’t exactly Ivy league. I do want to travel. More than anything. Mom and Dad…well, they’re not going to be together much longer. That’ll suck at first, but you’ll get over it. I don’t live with either of them, but I am far from independent. I don’t have a job at the moment, but I do the odd gig here and there. I don’t have a boyfriend, but that’s very okay. I don’t…I don’t have a best friend. Not really. Sometimes I think I do, but…well, when you’re 22 your friendships are going to mean much more to you than they do now, but you’re not going to be much better at understanding them. And sometimes that’s going to hurt. But don’t worry about being a hermit. I still am, sometimes, but in a couple years, you are going to find your niche. You are going to feel what confidence is, know what it is to shine. I’m sorry if I’ve disappointed you, but I guess all I can do about that now is to make sure my 30-year old doesn’t do the same to me. I’m on it.
I don’t think I’m ever going to get over the fact that this happened. You can skip to 3:47 to get to see my sisters and I ask Matt and Karen a question. I’m the one in brown waving a sonic screwdriver. I was meant to be the one to ask the question, but I received an emergency phone call at the worst possible moment. Astute Whovians will already know the answers to the questions we asked (I already knew, even though this was the day of the U.S. premiere at WonderCon, which we were in line to see), but I mean…you GUYS! MATT SMITH AND KAREN GILLAN ANSWERED OUR QUESTION(S…we were only supposed to ask one)!!!!

If you want something a bit different, like a custom comic, email me the details (asiavou at gmail dot com), and we can work something out. If this isn’t something you really want or can afford right now, you can still help me out by spreading the word.
